On June 10th, my social media buddy from Pennsylvania came to visit me for a few days and hiking Mount Evans was the first thing that we did while he was here!
To our dismay, when we approached the mountain from the Guanella Pass side, we discovered that there had been a rock slide and the path was closed! We were forced to drive about 2 hours to reach the other side of the mountain in order to climb it.
We drove most of the way up, arrived at Summit Lake, a couple thousand vertical feet from the summit of Evans and decided to hike the rest of the way. For those of you who don’t know, the road up to the top of Evans is the highest auto route in all of North America!
The hike was gorgeous, we got some excellent footage, had a phenomenal time and got to reflect quite a bit on our experience as we went.
We spent a little too much time at the summit and were forced to hitch a ride with some folks who were kind enough to drive us off of the summit down to our vehicle. Saw some mountain goats on the way which was quite awesome as well!
