Its The Little Things That Count

We’ve heard it many times before: It’s the little things that count.

But on days like today, I have to wonder if they’re even worth talking about.

As many of you already know, with InspirACTION it is my objective to do something new every day that I’ve never done before. I share my experiences with people in hopes of inspiring at least one person. You could say the main objective is to inspire as many people as possible, which leads me to today’s thought on “its the little things that count.”

Usually, I do something crazy like roll my car, climb a mountain, or film a cute doggie trick. These are all things that people would find entertaining or inspiring in their own right.

What about all the other activities? The ones I never share with you because I feel they are insignificant? Are they not just as important?

My hope is to inspire people to grow, and experience new things by doing so myself. It is difficult to deny the learning attached to the most simple of experiences, as they forever build on our life context. For instance, I remember the time I was at Red Robin enjoying a delicious chocolate milk shake. Instead of pouring the second half of my shake into the glass you’re supposed to drink from, I went straight to the shaker. Apparently thats an ineffective strategy because the second I tipped the shaker, it splattered all over my face. I’ll admit, it took doing this a second time for me to get the point. Some of us have to learn the hard way.

Here are some of the things I’ve done today that I’ve never experienced before, but would never be enough for their own video.

  1. Washed and prepared potatoes to be cooked in the microwave – didn’t realize you could cook them so fast in there!
  2. I took my friend’s dog on a walk for her because she wasn’t feeling well. The dog was having some issues going to the bathroom and I realized there was some “blockage.” I was forced to physically pull the ingested string from the bowels of this animal, in which he was very thankful! – Aren’t you glad I don’t video everything??
  3. Set up my first printer
  4. Instead of just going to town and hammering nails into the wall, I used a stud finder and level to attach my vision board and white board to the wall. When I moved out of my last place, I had so many holes to patch up because of my willy nilly fastening tactics.

In my quest for InspirACTION, I’ve found myself jumping in and engaging in a multitude of activities I wouldn’t otherwise. In most cases, I’m uncomfortable, which is why I used to be so averse to certain activities. But I was realizing that all these little things were holding me back! How silly would it be if I couldn’t set up my own printer? How can you feel enabled or empowered if you don’t know how to do anything for yourself?

This is why the little things matter. In the same way the pyramids were built with thousands upon thousands of stones; in every moment and new experience we lay down another brick in our legacy.

When I examine my life I try my best to find gratitude in all the pieces, fitting beautifully together to create what we perceive. Momentous occasions are built the precedence of a million occurrences.
