Just let is grow!

How many times do you find yourself in your own way? Most of the time it comes in the form of self-sabotage. You know whats good for you and you don’t do it, or you do lots of things you probably shouldn’t be doing.

I was mowing the lawn today and thinking about the way the plants grow in the garden. They’re given the structure and resources to grow and they do everything they can to make the best of it. You could say the plants have a lot of gratitude icon wink Written Wednesday Let it Grow! Even if they’re wilted and struggling, they do whatever it takes to keep growing or survive – and without a single complaint – no matter how sorry they look.

The interesting thing about plants too is that they’re really good receivers. A lot of people can’t even take a compliment. How many times have you seen a girl return a compliment to her friend before even letting it land? Or a dude that can’t just say “Thank you?”

Every time you give a plant a drop of water it’s always saying thank you. It knows that no matter how small, it is a blessing.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve passed up opportunities that would have been amazing in hindsight. I’m sure you can think of a few right now. We could all be better receivers and learn to take advantage of opportunities.

A plant’s purpose is to grow to its greatest potential, and bear the greatest fruits, vegetables, flowers or what have you to spread their seed. Again, humans are not that different in the way that we operate. The only distinction between us is that we often struggle with ourselves while plants grow with and without great effort.

What I mean is this – growth takes energy, but growth should not be draining. A plant can endure  many things throughout the day (struggling) but always has the energy to progress the next day. I’ve found myself doing things that I cannot sustain and therefore stagnate my growth.

Have you ever noticed that when you roll with the punches and work with what you’ve got things keep flowing? Obstacles will come up but they are not meant to be battled, simply overcome. The “struggle” is part of the way – it is necessary when we must be shaken.

Perhaps the Tao says it much better, and so I leave you with this verse for your own interpretation. The third part is my favorite.  Is life a struggle for you? Or are you learning how to let it all go and let it flow?

Verse Two from the Tao te Ching

“When people see some things as beautiful,

other things become ugly.

When people see some things as good,

other things become bad.

Being and non-being create each other.

Difficult and easy support each other.

Long and short define each other.

High and low depend on each other.

Before and after follow each other.

Therefore the Master

acts without doing anything

and teaches without saying anything.

Things arise and she lets them come;

things disappear and she lets them go.

She has but doesn’t possess,

acts but doesn’t expect.

When her work is done, she forgets it.

That is why it lasts forever.”
